BPCL joint venture awarded green hydrogen supply contract

New Delhi, March 24 (India News Agency) NeuEN Green Energy Private Limited (NeuEN), a joint venture established by Bharat Petroleum Company (BPCL) and Shengke Green Hydrogen Energy India Private Limited, each holding 50%, has signed a contract to supply 10000 tons of green hydrogen per year to Numaligar Refinery Limited (NRL). According to the company's statement, under the contract, NeuEN will build a green hydrogen production facility at the NRL refinery in Assam, which is supported by a long-term off-take arrangement. The project, which is expected to start commercial operations in 2028, will support the refinery's decarbonization process by integrating renewable energy with advanced energy storage solutions for reliable, round-the-clock operation.

Commenting on this, Sanjay Khanna, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Petroleum, said: "This project marks an important step in BPCL's journey to build a future-proof and resilient energy portfolio. With NeuEN, we have strengthened our footprint in the green hydrogen value chain and are on track to become a provider of clean energy solutions. He said that the successful acquisition of the project through a competitive bidding process reflects the growing maturity of the green hydrogen industry and the focus on developing scalable solutions that meet market needs.

"As we move forward, the focus will remain on building robust execution capabilities and making a substantial contribution to industrial decarbonization and India's long-term energy security."

Vipul Tuli, President of Sembco Renewable Energy West and CEO of Hydrogen, said: "This winning bid marks an important step forward in India's vision of developing green hydrogen and is highly aligned with Sembco's strategy to achieve a low-carbon energy future. The signature price reached demonstrates the importance of well-structured long-term off-take agreements. We are delighted to support the NRL in achieving its decarbonisation targets and delivering a project of national significance alongside the BPCL.

Shelly Abraham, Chairman of NeuEN, said: "By combining BPCL's strong domestic market presence and infrastructure capabilities with Sembco's global experience in renewables, we are driving the integration of low-carbon solutions into refining operations and supporting long-term industrial decarbonisation. Sembco brings complementary strengths to this collaboration and continues to advance the development of green hydrogen and its derivatives as a key decarbonization pathway. With a 76 GW renewable energy portfolio in India, Sengko has the capacity to support large-scale, cost-competitive green hydrogen production, helping to meet national and industrial decarbonization targets.
