Nvidia and Emerald AI Jointly Build a New Artificial Intelligence Factory

Nvidia and Emerald AI announced that they will work with power producers to develop artificial intelligence factories to support the grid system. With the surge in demand for artificial intelligence, the power infrastructure is under tremendous pressure. NVIDIA (NVDA) and Emerald AI said they will work with multiple power producers to develop a new class of AI factories designed to connect the energy grid faster and support the operation of the power system when the surge in demand for artificial intelligence puts pressure on the power infrastructure.

These facilities will be considered as "flexible energy assets" to support the grid by regulating electricity consumption and using on-site generation and energy storage. Participating energy companies include AES, Constellation, Invenergy, NextEra Energy, Nscale Energy & Power and Vistra. Nvidia said the facility will feature its Vera Rubin DSX reference architecture, as well as a software layer called DSX Flex that allows operators to match computing loads with power supply. Emerald AI Conductor platform will coordinate computing needs with on-site power generation, batteries and other energy resources.

The two companies said that by using co-located generation and storage to accelerate project deployment before obtaining a complete grid connection license, these resources can then be used to provide flexibility to the broader power system. Executives say flexible operations can help free up additional capacity in the U.S. grid by reducing the need to build peak-demand infrastructure. Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun said: "The artificial intelligence factory is the engine of the intelligent era. Like any great engine, every system must be co-designed-energy, computing, networking and cooling should be integrated as a whole architecture."
