Indian industry bodies forecast that grid-scale energy storage capacity will reach 346 GWh by 2033.

According to a white paper jointly published by the Indian Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) and Customized Energy Solutions (CES), India’s cumulative installed battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity is projected to grow from less than 1 GWh today to 346 GWh by 2033.

The report was released at the recently held 2026 India Stationary Energy Storage Conference (SESI 2026). Data shows that India’s stationary energy storage market is expanding rapidly. Over the past year, a total of 69 new BESS procurement tenders were launched, with a combined capacity of 102 GWh. This represents a 35% increase compared with 2024, and nearly doubles the annual tender volume.
