As the largest all-vanadium redox flow energy storage power station in China, the successful completion and grid connection of this phase of the project carry significant importance. First, it establishes an industry benchmark, signifying a major breakthrough in the large-scale deployment of long-duration energy storage technologies in China and leading the upgrade of the all-vanadium redox flow battery industry. Second, it strengthens energy infrastructure, enhances grid peak-shaving capacity and renewable energy integration, and solidifies Yunnan’s development as a clean energy hub. Third, it promotes regional development by extending the green vanadium–titanium industrial chain, helping Yongren become Yunnan’s energy storage industry base and advancing Chuxiong Prefecture’s green and low-carbon transformation. Fourth, it implements national strategies by providing a demonstration model for achieving the “dual carbon” goals and building a new type of power system, serving as a vivid embodiment of China’s new energy security strategy. The all-vanadium redox flow battery technology deployed in this project has demonstrated significant value in grid-scale applications—such as peak-shaving, smoothing renewable energy fluctuations, and enhancing power supply reliability—thanks to its outstanding advantages: high safety, long service life, scalable capacity, and environmental friendliness. These features have been validated through real-world operations. As a dedicated pioneer in technological innovation and industrialization within the flow battery sector, the electrical energy storage technology team has leveraged its robust, independently developed core technologies to overcome challenges related to renewable energy integration and construction engineering. While working under tight schedule constraints, the project team has maintained rigorous adherence to construction standards, ensuring full compliance with grid dispatch regulations and safety operating requirements, thereby guaranteeing both rapid deployment and high-quality execution. Upon commissioning, Phase I of the project will substantially enhance the regional power grid’s peak-shaving capacity, support Yunnan’s efforts to build an integrated “source-grid-load-storage” demonstration zone, and provide robust support for the efficient integration of clean energy. At this pivotal juncture marking the successful conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the strategic launch of the 15th, the first phase of the Yunnan Yongren all-vanadium redox flow energy storage project has smoothly connected to the grid and begun operation. This represents a profound implementation of electric energy storage as a driver for green transformation and a technology-enabled enabler of the energy transition. Looking ahead, Electrical Energy Storage will continue to deepen its expertise in long-duration energy storage, leveraging a broad portfolio of storage technologies to support the development of a new-generation power system and jointly create a sustainable energy future.
