The main construction of the Fengquan Pingshang Pumped Storage Hydropower Project in Guizhou has officially commenced.
As the old year gives way to the new, the main construction works for water conveyance and power generation, including civil works and installation of metal structures, at the Fuquan Pumped-Storage Hydropower Station in Guizhou Province have officially commenced, marking the project’s entry into a new phase of full-scale implementation. The Pingshang Pumped Storage Hydropower Station is located within Daoping Town, Fuquan City, Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is a key project to be implemented during the 14th Five-Year Plan period under the Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage Hydropower (2021–2035), and is classified as a Class I Large (Type 1) project. The power station is equipped with four reversible pump-turbine units, each with a capacity of 300 MW, for a total installed capacity of 1,200 MW. The company is primarily responsible for the construction of the water conveyance system, underground powerhouse complex, and other related facilities, with a construction period of 43 months. Once completed, the power station will serve multiple functions in Guizhou Province, including peak-shaving, valley-filling, frequency regulation, phase adjustment, and emergency reserve. It is expected to generate 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.29 million tonnes per year, and decrease coal consumption by 489,000 tonnes. These contributions will be of great significance in supporting China’s “dual carbon” goals and promoting green, low-carbon development in the region. Following its successful bid on December 19, China Hydropower Engineering Bureau No. 14 promptly advanced all preparatory work, driving the project to fruition with high standards and exceptional efficiency. The company will continue to align with the “dual carbon” goals, uphold the green development philosophy, and strive to build a world-class pumped storage hydropower project that is safe, reliable, green, and low-carbon, thereby supporting Guizhou’s efforts to develop a new-type power system and boosting the region’s economic and social progress.
